Melissa Yeto
Melissa was introduced to volleyball at an early age by her dad, Duane, a long time juniors and women’s club, high school and college coach. Like many children of coaches, she was a setter. She played at Hueneme High School, where they won State. She was also named All-Channel League and All-CIF Southern Section her senior year. She played two years for Ojai Volleyball Club on one of the top club teams in Southern California. She began her college career at Mills College. She returned home her sophomore year and played at Ventura College, where her team won the Western State Conference. She was named Player of the Year of the conference and was All-Southern California and All-California. She finished her career at California State University, Dominguez Hills, where she was All-Conference. She still holds the records for most assists in a match and is still in the record books for assists and service aces.
Melissa also played in and won many CBVA co-ed grass tournaments early in her career.
Melissa began coaching volleyball right after high school. She has coached at all levels, ranging from elementary through college aged. She was a graduate assistant at CSUDH. She also coached for Channel Islands Volleyball Club, Ventura West Volleyball Club, Beulah Volleyball Club, and Deanza Volleyball Club. While with Ventura West, her 14-under team finished 15th at the Volleyball Festival, which at the time was the largest volleyball competition for junior girls. She also coached for the Marv Dunphy Volleyball Camps. She is currently the JV coach at Ventura High School, where she is on her 11th year (’94-’97; ’09-present). In between her time at VHS, she was an assistant coach for Ventura College for several years.
Melissa still enjoys playing volleyball whenever she can. She lives in Oxnard. She has her Bachelor’s in Business Administration: Concentration in Marketing; Multi-subject teaching credential; and Master’s in Elementary Math and Language Arts. She teaches 2nd grade at Elm Street School (’01-present).
